Seek and Destroy

Work in progresss

On the 18th of Ches, Jarl initiates his effort to rebuild the militia and town guard,
while Kalcryx and G’Kar clean up the now destroyed temple of Helm. Delenn
and Jaran aid the wizard Kouraf in cleaning up the debris from his now collapsed
tower. On the evening of the 18th, they are all invited to Lord Corvus’s table
for eveningfeast.

The group is contracted to travel northeast into the Wealdath to infiltrate an
enemy outpost. Armed with delayed blast spells from Kouraf, they are told to
destroy a command unit full of documents and a storage bunker with an
unknown cargo — which must be identified before destruction.

After a two day journey, they spy on the camp from a distance and establish
a battle plan. The spellcasters Jaran and Delenn are to spiderclimb invisibly
over the outer wall, identify the targets, set of their charges and retreat. Jarl
and G’Kar will charge the front gates to provide a distraction, while Kalcryx
consumes a potion of fly and rains arrow cover from above.

The plan proceeds without much incident. However, Jarl is not able to break
through the front gates. With archers pincushioning him from above, he covers
himself by pushing close to the outer wall, and attempts to pry open the
drawbridge. As the drawbridge opens enough to allow them through, Jarl and
G’Kar run in and engage the swordsmen.

Delenn sets off her charge and retreats. A few minutes later, it begins to rain
acid on the storage bunker.

Jaran continues to wander around invisibily, hoping to sneak into the command
unit and set off her charge. Unfortunately, the apparent leader of the fortress
calls for a defensive retreat, and locks himself and his comrads into the building.

With G’Kar and Jarl quickly surrounded, outnumbered at least twenty to one,
Jaran decides to set off her charge outside the building, hoping to catch the
defending men in the blast. A few minutes later the charge goes off, a ball of
blistering fire charring the building and killing the men. Moments later, the
leaders inside flee the building as it collapses in a pile of burning wood.

Jarl retreats by jumping the halfwall shielding the ground archers and runs up
a ladder. G’Kar however, is surrounded and can’t escape. Jarl runs down the
ladder and charges the previously established leader man, knocking him
unconscious in a daring maneuver.

Noticing this, the wizard Zonas panics. Stumbling back towards cover, he aims
at Jarl and unleashes a small fiery projectile. It streaks silently towards Jarl,
exploding in a ball of fire inches from impacting.

Luckily, Jarl turns his body at the last minute, avoiding the full blow of the
scorching flames surrounding him.

G’Kar, seeing the Jarl has come back down for him, and that Kalcryx has landed
inside the compound tries to rush towards Jarl but is taken down by the mob
surrounding just short of reaching Jarl. Delenn, who had circled around the
compound to join her comrads, climbs the outer wall once more — attacking
Zonas from above. The wizard flees, and Jaran moves in to rescue the group.

Reading the final spell on Kouraf’s scroll, she teleports the party to safety.
Delenn also decides to use her teleport, and decides to take the bodies of the
leader and his comrad along with her. They may come in handy for questioning,
or simply for their money and equipment.

The Battle of Mosstone

[Game of Nov 15th, 2002]

work in progress

Highlights:

Having destroyed the skeletal priests in the temple of Helm, the group flees the
shapechanged mage collapsing the roof of the temple in dragon form, and
engages a batallion of men attacking the townsfolk in the city square.

Both surrounded by swordsmen and ant-riders, Jarl charges through combat,
miraculously avoiding the slashing of his foes to join G’Kar. They fight back
to back to avoid being surrounded again.

Delenn quaffs her potion of levitate to avoid the charging swordsmen. As a
result, she is able to view the extent of the destruction — noticing the explosions
to the south and the ground fighting to the north. She is the only one who sees
the wand that turns the base of Kouraf’s tower into mud.

Kouraf uses a wall of ice to crush the army surrounding Jarl, and moments later
his tower collapses.

Silvia, Kouraf’s apprentice, is ejected from the top window of Kouraf’s tower by
a fireball explosion. As she tumbles through the air, she is able to pull of one
final spell — a spider web forms below her, breaking her fall.

The group is asked to destroy a small scout party leading the invading army
from the north led by a paladin in black field plate armour, and his companion
priest of Bane.

Delenn flies in from above and spews a cone of fire down on the encampment,
killing half the soldiers and setting fire to a large number of their tents.

Kalcryx quaffs a potion of speed and zooms along the perimeter of the camp,
unleashing arrow after arrow at the unsuspecting soldiers.

Jaran sneaks up from behind a tent and casts a sleep enchantement on a large
group of guards. As reinforcements pour in to awaken their sleeping comrads,
Jaran casts the spell again, sleeping the reinforcements as well.

Jarl engages in mortal combat with the paladin in black armour, but ultimately
it is Delenn who downs him from above with her magic bolts.

Delenn escapes being tagged with a light emitting spell — twice. No doubt had
she been illuminated the archers on the ground would have tracked her and
targeted their arrows accordindly.

G’Kar puts his warhammer to good use. Soldier after soldier falls before him as
he charges towards Jarl and the paladin in black armour.

Invading Forces

Memorable Moments:

Having discovered a wall of force sectioning off himself and comrads from the
mysterious black-clad figure in the temple of Helm, G’Kar moves into an
adjacent room and starts tearing down the wall with his warhammer.

Upon sight of the kneeling mage at the altar, Jarl quaffs a potion of superheroism
and charges… into a wall of force.

Jaran, awakened by Kalcryx’s warning shout, sneaks up behind a giant spider
attacking G’Kar and plunges her sword into its back and slides down with the
weight of her body, tearing the spider’s body in two.

As Dirk’s chariot pulls away from the group, his men climbing onboard at a run,
Jarl and Jaran follow. Jarl clings to the back and climbs on top. Jaran hangs on
to the side, but falls off trying to make her way to the top. After being stabbed
by one of the men inside, Jarl is tackled off by one Dirk’s men and they both
plunge into the mud.

Threatened with an axe, Rorick charges and tackles Dirk. They both struggle on
the ground at Jarl’s feet. Rorick then rolls off and stumbles out the door as Dirk
picks up his axe and hurls it at Jarl. Dirk then lunges behind a corner, trying to
avoid the now steaming Jarl.

Kalcryx is almost hit by a lightning bolt while trying to recharge Kouraf’s wand
of lightning. Better luck next time.

Delenn suddenly finds herself surrounded by three giant spiders while waking
up G’Kar at the end of her watch shift. Out of the corner of her eye, she notices
the monsters leap in from outside her vision and Kalcryx’s ward — more than
sixty feet away.

Jarl and G’Kar yelling out battle cries and insults during the invasion of Mosstone.
In particular, Jarl rallies himself to battle after seeing the commoners defending
themselves from the invading forces with pitchforks and broomhandles.

The black-clad figure at the altar in the temple of Helm wraps her pale hands
around a staff, using it to rise and face the party. Her skeletal familiar slithers
around her neck. Moments later she recites an incantation and her long dark
fingernails pierce the air, as the murdered clergy rises as bony warriors to
defend her.

The party delves further into the ogre caves in search of answers
and Jarl’s brother. They help rescue G’Kar, Dwarven Champion of
Clangeddin Silverbeard — who joins them in search for answers.
They find that after the complex series of underwater tunnels
lies a beautiful woman; so beautiful none of the men have the
heart to harm her. It is up to Delenn and Jaran to end her evil
plans and ensure the safety of the party.

They return to the surface to investigate the rest of the caves,
and enter a bear den in the process. The bears warn them
away, but Jarl moves in and the party slays the beasts.

The next day, as they depart the caves, the party is ambushed
from above by a group of kobolds hurling nets and a band of
humans and half-elves intent on killing them.
