Saving Gilil

Filed under: Summaries — Gabriel Rosa @ 2:37 am

After regrouping in Waterdeep, Kalcryx communed with Helm to seek out answers
regarding Gilil and regarding Lyta’s soul. Lyta was then True Ressurected by
the Mystrans.

Much planning occured. Henrietta conveniently remained somewhere in Velen,
and Rowan is still unheard from.

After casting preparatory spells, the group teleported in to Gilil’s cave,
where Kalcryx had recently scryed her. Upon arrival, Gilil requested a
miracle from Bane that exchanged her position in the cave with the death
giants outside. Suddenly, it was very crowded.

Jaran erected a wall of iron to block the entrance, and Lyta dimension
doored everyone outside. Gilil cast Chain Lightning at Kalcryx, injuring
the group, then flew up over the mountain peak.

The Death Giants burst through the wall of iron, and poured out of the
cave. Gwynnedh took to the air with her bow, Jaran followed with Haste
and Wages of Sin, and Lyta injured the Death Giants with maximized
Chain Lightning.

Gkar and Kalcryx waded into melee with the giants. One by one, the giants
fell.

Gilil summoned a humongous black cloud over the mountain peak, and it soon
turned dark and thunderous. The winds picked up, and soon it began to rain
acid. Bolts of lightning struck the party.

Lyta and Jaran split off and chased Gilil, while Gkar and Kalcryx slayed all
but one final giant. As the giants died, their guardian souls swirled out
and merged with the remaining giants.

Jaran reduced Gilil’s resistance to magic, and Lyta used the final wish from
the ring to restore Gilil’s faith in Clangeddin, and her purity of heart.

Kalcryx destroyed the final giant, and the souls were released. A celestial
light parted the dark clouds, illuminating Gilil. A second body was shunted
back from her, a body resembling Gilil’s former shape.

The Solar healed Jaran’s and Lyta’s wounds, and Gilil ran to join Gkar in
battle. Although she raged herself into a battle frenzy, it was already
over when she arrived.

The Solar restored the Lifebringer, converting it to a bastard sword
(Helm’s chosen weapon) at Kalcryx’s request, and also restored Thorar
Silverhand to life. She then departed towards her celestial realms.
Gilil remained at the mountain peak.

Thorar was returned to Stormaxe, Gwynnedh returned to Mosstone, and
Kalcryx headed to Neverwinter. In Neverwinter, he commisioned the casting
of a Hardening spell on the Lifebringer, much like Gkar had done for
his warhammer.

In Velen, Jaran was aquainted with an elven ranger wizard, who pledged
his apprentice and his rangers to aid her in patroling the nearby forest.

A day passed, and Gwynnedh contacted Kalcryx through Theodore’s (the
priest of Mystra in Mosstone) Sending. A Banite woman had made it through
the city gate checkpoint and to Darkfury’s tower.

Gkar also received a sending from a Warprince of Clangeddin requesting
reinforcements. He stated his position as being north of where the
Starspire is cut by a river.

The group reformed in Mosstone, and on the evening of the 28th, Gwynnedh
was called by the wall lookouts. Black clad men were seen moving in large
numbers in the distance, displaying banners of Bane.

A Solar’s Sins

Ches 18 - 24, 1358DR
[Game of Nov 7th, 2004]

Following the rescue of Thorar Silverhands, the group returned to
the Prime, somewhere between a mountain range (to the North) and a
great forest (to the south). Jaran figured, using her maps, that they
were somewhere between the Weldath and the Small Teeth, a mountain
range in the south of Amn. Thorar, his skins bleached and wrinkled,
immediately covered his pindotted eyes to block out the daylight. “No,
Stormaxe, no.”, he cried when G’kar asked him if he’d like to return
home. “Shame… disgrace.”

Jaran teleported the group to her house in Velen. Henrietta proceeded to
raid the pantry, and harass the cook for humanoids to eat. He boiled her
some eggs, and she proceeded to make some soup for Thorar. G’Kar sat down
with Thorar for a talk. “I cannot go back to Stormaxe, I have lost the
Twin Storms, the blessed weapons given to me by Clangeddin himself.” G’Kar
urged him home, and Thorar pondered the situation quietly to himself while
G’kar explained the significance of the blessed weapons to the group.

Thorar motioned for G’kar to sit, and whispered some short words into
his ears. G’kar looked distraut, and noted, “I will have to think about
it.” Thorar then conceeded, “I will return to Stormaxe.”

The group was puzzled over what Thorar said to G’kar. “He wants me to
take his place.”

The group teleported outside of Stormaxe, where the guards greeted
them. Thorar put his arms around G’kar and hailed, “Your High Priest
has returned.” As they entered the city, word spread, and dwarves looked
in awe at the return of Thorar. Thorar gathered a contingent of dwarves
and headed for the city gathering place. The dwarves lined up, two lines
facing each other, with Thorar at one end, and G’kar at the other.

Thorar proclaimed the glories of Clangeddin, and the sacrificies that
all dwarves must make in the name of battle. “And today, I must also
make a sacrifice in the name of Clangeddin. Today, I make the greatest
sacrifice of all.”

He walked towards G’kar, and G’kar walked towards him. In the middle they
met, and as Thorar grasped G’kar arms he proclaimed. “G’kar Truehammer,
Defender of the Twin Storms, Sacred Knight of the War Princes, High
Old One, Champion Aleghar of Clangeddin Silverbeard, Son of … [snip]
today is your day to lead us as High Priest.”

G’Kar agreed, and they swapped places, continuing their walk down the
line. The dwarves all hailed, “All Hail the High Priest”. There was
much celebrating, and G’kar recounted the rescue of Thorar Silverhands
from the clutches of evil.

The night was celebrated away, and in the morning it was back to
business. G’kar convinced Thorar to aid in redeeming Gilil, and it was
agreed that she would be brought to Stormaxe, where Thorar could cast
his Miracle on her. The group wandered to her mountain peak, where she
anxiously greeted G’kar.

She agreed to venture with the group, and in moments they had returned
to Stormaxe. The dwarves, on seeing the solar walking through town,
dropped to the ground in awe, bowing in respect. Even Thorar could not
help but take to his knees. Thorar agreed to atone Gilil, but G’kar
recalled his vision and wondered… “I think we need a Banite Atonement.”

They decided their best bet would be Silvia, in Mosstone. “Gilil, we
must go on another trip.” G’kar gathered some books, and they teleported
to Jaran’s house in Mosstone, where Kalcryx stayed with Gilil while the
rest of the group seeked out Silvia.

Henrietta knocked on her door, and the slit opened, revealing a pair of
glowing red eyes. “Speak you business, mortal.”

“We seek Silvia, we have a favour to ask her”, proclaimed Henrietta.

The slit closed, and within minutes it a familiar pair of blue eyes on
a freckled face appeared through the slit. “Silvia, we must ask you for
a favour,” said G’kar, but a male voice interceeded, “Yes, I heard.”

G’kar was confused, and Jaran stepped up. “Murdock, we need to talk to
your sister.”

“She very busy, friends, I heard you needed a favour, and well, I’m your
favour man. What can I do for you? Tell me what you need, and I’ll tell
you what you can do for me. I’m sure we can reach a nice agreement.”

“We’ll be back”, said G’kar, and they wandered off to pursue
options. There weren’t many, aside from kidnapping a Banite and making
him cast an attonement. They returned to Darkfury.

“I’ve been giving this some thought, G’Kar… I want you to change
something for me. This pesky law, that makes it illegal to worship Bane
in this city, it needs to be changed. I would like to build a temple
here. What I want from you is to talk to your paladin friend and make
her change it. What do you want?”

G’kar explained that he wanted an Attonent spell, and that he’d return
later with an answer. They argued over wether or not Gwynnedh would allow
such a change in the law, and then decided that it would be a better
idea to travel to Athkatla and attempt to commision a scroll from the
Banite church there.

Lyta, Henrietta and Kalcryx traveled, under magical disguise, and
convinced a Banite priest to pen such a scroll for them. It would be
ready in two days.

They returned to Tethyr, and waited two days. Again, under magical disguise
they returned to Athkatla and retrieved the scroll.

The group teleported to Stormaxe, and G’kar took Gilil to the temple of
Clangeddin. As he began to unfurl the scrolls, Gilil spoke.

“Uh… what about the… uh, the uh.. ya, the uh, souls…”

G’kar interceeded, “The souls of those you killed? What about them?”

“Well… uh… I have to uh, be sorry, right? What if uh.. ya, sorry…
but if uh… what if they… uh… do I have to uh, be sorry if they
hrm… what if they’re not… nevermind.”

The group proded her for more information.

“What souls? Oh… uh… oh ya… uh what if uh… what if… if
they’re not, hrm… released… do I uh… I’m still sorry, right? I
mean uh… they’re, hrm, ya, tied to the mountain, ya… you know… to
uh… ya, to uh, hrm.. keep me here.”

The group decided that it would be a better idea to take Gilil back to
her cave, and perform the ceremony there. Thorar rejected the idea of
him coming along, not wanting to leave Stormaxe without a Clangeddin
priest. G’kar convinced him to come anyways.

They arrived at the mouth of Gilil’s cave, and they circled around her,
as G’kar began to recite the joys of Bane in scroll form. “By the power
of Bane, I pronounce that He forgives you for your sins commited against
his tyranny!”

The skies blackened.

“I’m uh… I’m sorry…”, mumbled Gilil.

“Yes,” she continued, her voice gaining firmness and depth, “I’m sorry
that you’re still alive.”

The ground parted, and out of the raptures rose six giant figures. They
blackened bodies clad in black metal armour easily 15 feet tall. Giant
axes strapped to their backs, which they reached for as they climbed.
Their white pupils featureless, as a ghostly white mist of bemoaning
faces and anguished screams circled their bodies, keening loudly.

Gilil drew her greataxe and swung it at G’kar, who drew his hammer and
swung the shaft at her. “I don’t want to kill her.”

Thorar dropped to the ground, frightnened by the wails of the trapped
souls. He was immediately struck down by the giant figures, and as
he crumpled to the ground, a whispy image of him was seen almost being
pulled away from his body.

Henrietta bound the spirit of the giant, and reached for her sword,
proclaiming, “It’s time, Aleric.” Jaran hasted the group, Kalcryx
recitated them into battle, and Lyta blurred herself.

The giant figures commanded columns of flame down on the mountainside,
engulfing the party. Gilil spoke a word of power, a word of ultimate
unholiness, and all but Jaran and Kalcryx were paralysed.

With nothing to oppose them, the giants delivered mercy blows on
Henrietta, Lyta and G’Kar. Kalcryx grabbed Henrietta and planeshifted
to Hell, only to immediately shift back to the prime.

Jaran grabbed G’Kar, and used a dimension door to place them next to
Lyta’s fallen body. As she arrived next to Lyta, she noticed a whispy
image of Lyta leave the body and become part of the ghostly fog encircling
one of the giants.

The giants closed in to melee. Gilil called down a column of fire on
Jaran, Lyta and Gkar, and Gkar perished.

Jaran used a teleport to return to Velen, and Clangeddin’s Fury used
it’s embued spell to Revivify G’kar.

Jaran sent to Kalcryx, and they regrouped the next day, parting for
Waterdeep to seek out True Ressurections.
