Love and Duty

14 Hammer 1359 DR

My companions gather in the morning and we discuss our obligations. There are yet many threads left untied. Jaran sighs and mutters darkly of Jarl. I am bound by my word to bring Galeon of Waukeen to justice for his treachery. The gods of Mulhorand have claim on all our hands.

And then there is Stormaxe.

G’Kar speaks of his brethren –of his own wife and child– suffering in bondage to drow masters.

I pity him, having tasted some of that bitter draught. Yet my own regrets are but a drop in the barrel compared to his. Because of my lord, Mosstone has fared well in my absence, though many died defending her from Darkfury’s army.

In truth, I am not certain I could have much such a great difference.

Stormaxe had greater need of G’Kar, and he has failed to protect his home and his people. The loss weighs on him heavily, as a father, as a husband, as a son of Helm…

We stand at a crossroads, but the right path seems clear: G’Kar must brave the underdark, for duty and for love, and we must stand by him, where his own people will not. Yet, there are many questions we do not have answers for –Where? How many? How?

And then I see another road, and the right choice is no longer obvious.

Lyta’s Alternate Reality– Entry #48

Entry 48 (13 Nightal, 1358DR): What In Nahal!?!?

Now that The Weave is restored and some sense of normalcy has settled in, I felt it important to smooth out some of the wrinkles I made along the way. First most being Theodore, where the last time we saw each other the turn of events was…unfortunate. I hoped that the ends might justify the means in his eyes, and I prayed he’d no longer ban me from his church for my fervor in finding Our Lady in Her greatest time of need.

Gwynn spoke in my behalf and he agreed to an audience, where I offered in my defense that my occupation requires me to persist after failure, and though that is a trait that can occasionally be….annoying, it has also aided me in what small part I played in restoring the Weave. For that I beseeched he view his sacrifice and pain a small price to pay for fulfilling that noble quest. Fortunately, in the time after our parting, he came to realize that the chaotic side-effects of the spells I had cast were not intentional, nor were they isolated incidents, but were due to the current state of the Weave. He revoked my ban on the Temple of Mystra.

Nonetheless, in good faith I offered the church my Controlling the Chaos book for its library—my compendium for shaping raw magical energy. Though his experience suggests otherwise, I told him these skills, when mastered, can be very beneficial, and it is my belief that there will be others who will be drawn to the great power and flexibility of wild magic.

Little did I expect that that possibility would soon become a reality—but one more alternate than I had ever imagined! As I was walking past the church, I heard an older man with a queer accent speaking to Theodore about my book. “Interesting, interesting!” he mumbled as he leafed through its pages. “Sir, can you tell me, is there a bibliography for this book? My name is in it, but I can’t find a bibliography.”

I rushed into the temple, knowing there was only one man’s name prominently mentioned in my book! I arrived only in time to watch him flee with what suspiciously looked like a quickened-Nahal’s-teleport. Could it possibly have been…?

I must put this here in my AR journal, since no one else is likely to believe what I heard and saw. You would think after meeting Mystra herself in person I would be immune to an impossible happenstance such as this. But I can’t help but shake in anticipation of the slightest possibility of one day meeting Nahal face-to-face. My comrades catch my smirkful expressions, and eye me quizzically as I fantasize about what havoc the two of us could wreak together!

And I can’t help but wonder…do I cast Nahal’s more than Nahal does?

13 Hammer, 1359 DR

Post ToT downtime. Gifts are given to the newly crowned King and Princess of Southern Lethyr. Lyta attempts unsuccessfully to contact Elva Greenstrider. Gwynn tries to bribe Zonas into telling his story with stories of her own. G’kar suddenly realizes his wife and son are captured and starts their rescue, but is thwarted by drow clerics and a lack of information. Gwynn gets a note from Lady Zaranda expressing concern about Zonas.

We visit Zonas in Zazesspur. His rooms in the main keep are locked, and he is unwilling to speak to Gwynn. He retreats away through a dimensional door, and we break into his room to make sure he is not meddling in something dangerous. A large group of ambushers descend upon us, focusing on Gwynn when she states her heritage. We beat them off, and let the castle guard through the cooridor. We lock up Zonas’ chamber and follow the guard to a room, where they turn upon us. Gwynn realizes that though they are carrying the heraldry of the guards, the bearers are evil.

Because of Gabe’s et ceteras…

Eleint(?) 1358 DR

“I have come to see Sir Lucas Justblade.”

The woman smiles pleasantly, looking through me politely, as all clerks do. I have never seen her before, and she obviously has no idea who I am. “Do you have an appointment?” she asks.

“No…”

But I am expected.

Evil, the other black meat

Filed under: Summaries — Yamara @ 4:13 pm

Last day of ToT, 25 Eleint, 1358 DR

Learn Cyric has a hideout in Waterdeep. Track it down, send the pixie spy. Dimension door into the hideout, smack suddenly appearing from nowhere ambushers. Cyric pops out and almost insta-kills Lyta, then running tumbles out the guarded front door. He evades us in the streets, entering the marketplace and urging the crowd against us. Rowan spies him down an alleyway, and Kalc stops him slow in sand. We eventually trap him, and accept his surrender, sort of. Cyric has the evil tablet of fate on him, as well as a particularly nasty sword. After some work we transport all to Mount Waterdeep.

We return the three Tablets of Fate to Helm. Meet the One who is Hidden. Watch the tablets get crunched into dust. Watch Midnight, Cyric and Kelemvor get awarded godhood. Each party member gets awarded a wish.

Magic restored. Whee.
